To ensure that your fabric lasts longer and stays looking fresh and clean ensure that you vacuum it at least every fortnight.
Using a brush attachment, take particular care over areas where ambient dust settles, such as on the tops of chair arms, cushions, curtains and lampshades.
Dust is often left to settle on these areas and is then pushed into the fabric when it is rubbed or lent on. Loose chair or arm covers can be purchased for extra protection. In particularly dusty areas, such as rooms near roads, it is advised to use an air purifier.
Also, be on the lookout for upholstered furniture near windows as this lends itself to discolouration as the sun acts as a bleach to fabric. During particularly sunny time move the furniture away from the window or shut the curtains.
