Opening the Door to the Beauty of Italy

Italian door with brass handles

One never forgets the doors of Italy!

In most parts of the world doors are but doors, passages to walk through. But in Italy, it’s a very different story.  Italian doors have an allure and charm that is wholly enticing and unforgettable to any passer-by. As you walk down the cobblestone pathways of Florence, every door has a unique magical charm and character that one is drawn to like a moth to a flame. Some doors are extraordinarily heavy looking, with great big brass handles and others are more humble and delicate with peeling and aged surfaces that really show the passage of time.

On a recent design trip to Italy, Christophe Living discovered the near impossibility of discovering one ugly door in Florence and hence, took these photos to share with you the endless allure and beauty of Italian doors.  When you stand in front of an Italian door you can’t help but wonder who, in past a century, has also stood in this very spot. You begin to imagine what could be behind each door, the families that have lived there and the events and lives that have taken place inside these homes.
